Why "LosOlivosNow.com"?
- by Bent Myggen, resident editor.
This small town is fast becoming the wine-mecca of Santa Ynez Valley, and while everyone in the country is expecting doom and gloom, I expect we will keep having more visitors than ever come here to unwind.
I know many in town have looked with a fearful eye on how fast LO is changing. It must be strange for those who have lived here since childhood to see allthe tourists and newcomers (of which I am one), but no matter what, the boat is in the river so we'll see how she makes it down the rapids. We have wine-makers, chefs, artists, sculptors, healers and musicians - so we may as well celebrate. What can we offer the travelor-bys?
At this point I have been fortunate to land up in the middle of Los Olivos and since we had some wonderful afternoons last summer, I intend to continue (and expand) the tradition. I don't know what the people that are walking by my gate are looking for (or anyone else for that matter) - but if it is a moment when something unexpected happened, then music can provide that.
Each weekend I plan to set stage, sound, chairs and tables out in the garden. The webcam will be on, so anyone can tune in before coming down. In a play-it-and-they-will-come frame of mind I will post a schedule, starting with "accoustic" instruments before noon, then rhythms, sound-scapes, visiting performers & local bands. The music will span from meditative to reggae/funk jams - we'll try it all. Bring a picnic or a shaker if you like - or hang in the park next door.

The website will list events anywhere in town, give information to visitors and also provide a forum for local concerns or praise. Other towns are dying from lack of business, so I'm personally grateful for the opportunity to be here.
The best part of Los Olivos is the people who live here.
